China’s Couplings Have Become Key Members in the World First Matrix
As couplings are the basis of the equipment industry, coupling industry, intensely concerned by all over the world, is a basic sector and strategic industry determining the national interest, people's livelihood and national defense construction. Through the economic recovery period and the Tenth Five-year Plan stages, particularly with the 20 years endeavor after the reform and opening-up policy, the coupling industry in China has constructed a complete system with relatively large scale and established a favorably technical foundation equipped with a strong competition capability. On the whole, our coupling industry has become key members in the world first matrix. The following analysis focuses on some aspects including the aggregate supply capability, product category and performance situation, R&D ability and technical development, and IT application in the enterprise management.
In recent years, with rapid development of the national economy and necessary strengthening of defense construction in China, a heavy and urgent demand on the basic and strategic manufacturing equipment including couplings is increasing. In 2002, the consumption amount in domestic coupling market has already been up to 5.9 billion US dollars, ranking the first in the world, which to some extent shows our strong capability of aggregate supply in our coupling industry.
Looking back to the history of supply for basic equipment of the equipment manufacturing industry, according to the statistics of the national industrial survey, it is shown that nearly 3.78million sets of couplings have been replaced and reformed in 50 years, including 2.94 million sets of gold cut couplings, 840,000 sets of forged couplings, mostly self-manufactured; there are also heavy and extra-heavy cutting couplings and forging machinery, high-precision couplings and digital couplings, and thousands of automatic and semi-automatic production lines. Taking the important equipment project as an example, at that time of embargo and blockade, to complete a project which could manufacture 100,000 heavy trucks annually, the entire coupling industry provided 96% parts of each set of equipment (80% of the total investment ): including professional machinery and 30 automatic production lines with 7664 sets (pieces/lines), which was highly praised as the Treasure Basin by Mr. Deng Xiaoping.
